BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Leonard Sender, M.D., Chairman of the Board Leonard S. Sender, M.D. received his medical education in South Africa at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and completed his pediatrics internship and residency at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange, CA. His pediatrics hematology/oncology subspecialty training included the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Sender is board certified both in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. His professional interests are strongly centered on the diagnosis, treatment, and epidemiology of adolescent and young adult cancers (patients between the ages of 15 and 29). Dr. Sender is currently Medical Director of the Cancer Institute at Children's Hospital of Orange County; Pediatric Subspecialty Faculty Division Chief of Oncology; and Medical Director of Clinical Oncology Services at the UC Irvine Medical Center's Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Sender has developed the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Program at CHOC and is recognized as an advocacy pioneer in young adult oncology. William L. Wagner, Treasurer of the Board William L. Wagner is the Managing Officer, Operations & Business Development for the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) where he provides oversight of day-to-day operations and spearheads business development and strategic initiatives. His passion for creativity and the arts led him to a 12-year career in modern dance prior to joining NYFA. His international performing arts career was primarily with the Mark Morris Dance Group. While performing with this troupe, he developed an arts-in-education project with Yo-Yo Ma, performed with other internationally acclaimed artists, and taught modern dance throughout the United States and Europe. William received his MBA from Cornell University in 2007 and BA from The State University of New York at Purchase. He currently lives in Westchester County, New York with his wife, Anne, and 5-year old son Thomas. Matthew Zachary, Secretary of the Board Christine Cuoco Christine Cuoco is a Senior Manager at American Express where she works in a strategy and product design capacity. Her varied professional experience includes several years working in consumer marketing for In Style, Parenting, and Real Simple magazines at Time Inc. Christine also spent four years at J.P Morgan Securities Inc., where she was most recently an Associate on the Corporate Bond Strategy team. While at J.P. Morgan, she earned the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation. Christine has a BA, magna cum laude, in Mathematics from Dartmouth College and earned her MBA at Harvard Business School. A huge fan of traveling within Italy, Christine lives in Manhattan, where she especially enjoys checking out the latest foreign films and discovering new neighborhood restaurants. Bunny Ellerin Bunny Ellerin is a Managing Director at Interbrand Wood where she leads the research division and is responsible for operational performance, business development, client management and spearheading the firm's efforts in the Health 2.0 space. Previously, she was Executive Vice President of Clinsights where she helped create several physician education websites including TCTMD, the first online community for interventional cardiologists. Before that, she spent five years in the physician practice management (PPM) industry where she worked with nearly every type of specialty. Bunny is known throughout the healthcare industry for her work founding and leading the Harvard Business School Health Industry Alumni Association in 1999 where she served as president through 2004 and now sits as Chair. HBSHIAA brings together HBS alumni involved in all sectors of the healthcare industry for professional development and networking. Bunny received a BA in Political Science from Columbia University and an MBA from Harvard University. She currently resides in Brooklyn with her husband and son. Samuel B. Frank Samuel B. Frank is founder and principal consultant of Synthesis Partnership, which specializes in integrated strategic, program, business and facility analysis, planning and implementation for educational, cultural, health care, social service and other nonprofits facing or creating change. After assisting i[2]y to organize its governance and its board, shape its strategic and business planning, structure its Young Adult Community and management protocols, and focus its communications and fundraising as a consultant, he accepted an invitation to join the i[2]y board. Mr. Frank has published articles on planning and governance and offered workshops on integrated planning at national and regional conferences. Prior to founding Synthesis Partnership, he was Director of Architecture and Design at Corning Incorporated and Dean of Architecture and Design at Rhode Island School of Design. He was educated in English literature at Princeton University, architecture at Harvard University, and architectural history, theory and criticism at M.I.T.. Michelle Galen Michele Galen is currently Vice President & Global Head, Oncology Affairs for Novartis Oncology, a member of the Novartis Oncology Executive Coordinating Committee (which sets policy and oversees the $7 billion business) and co-founder of EWIN (Empowering Women to Impact Novartis), the company's highly regarded women's leadership group. Prior to joining Novartis, Michele was Managing Director of Burson-Marsteller, a global public relations firm, and served as an Editor for BusinessWeek magazine, overseeing legal affairs and social issues coverage. Michele began her career as an intellectual property and advertising attorney in New York City for the law firms Stroock, Stroock & Lavan and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from George Washington University, a J.D. from New York University School of Law, and an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University, and is a member of the New York State Bar. She currently resides in New Jersey with her husband and two sons. Lionel Leventhal Lionel Leventhal is a partner at Paul Capital Partners and is a founding member of the Paul Capital Healthcare Fund which manages approximately $5 billion in equity capital commitments for its three investment platforms from offices in New York, San Francisco, Paris, London and Toronto. Mr. Leventhal is primarily responsible for structuring, negotiating and closing transactions, as well as negotiating and arranging securitizations and debt facilities. He has a diverse professional background that includes CS First Boston and Bain & Company, Inc.. He earned his undergraduate degree Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College, and holds an M.B.A. with honors from Harvard Business School. Mr. Leventhal is a board member of the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation as well as Literacy Volunteers of America, the country's largest adult literacy volunteer organization; and is a trustee of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. His active interests also include cooking, rock and ice-climbing and international travel. Mr. Leventhal makes his home in Manhattan. Stacia Wagner, LSW Stacia Wagner is a licensed oncology social worker who specializes in adolescent and young adult survivorship and currently serves as the Director of Survivorship Programming for the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation. Prior to this position, she worked in advocacy for the National Children's Cancer Society's survivor program, Beyond The Cure. She is the Legal and Advocacy Committee Chairperson for the Association of Pediatric Social Workers and a former member of the Tone Deafs. As a young adult survivor, Stacia recognizes the power of i[2]y and states, "When I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma as a college student, it wasn't cool to say you had cancer. In fact my college friends ran from me. In addition to being incredibly talented artists, Matthew Zachary and other artists like Christine Baze, provide the inspiration to not only talk about being a survivor, but to assist in building a community of young adult survivors that can be the voice for change. I have witnessed firsthand the difference that they make to survivors who can feel so alone." |
